Aquinas Academy student named finalist for writers contest
Felicity Koble, a fifth-grade student at Aquinas Academy of Pittsburgh, was selected as a finalist for the 2019 PBS KIDS Writers Contest made possible locally by the EQT Foundation. Twenty-seven winners were chosen from more than 1,000 stories received from throughout Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Ohio, Maryland and Delaware.
Until May 31, the public is invited to vote for the “Reader’s Choice Winner.” All finalists’ stories will be available to read and listen to via WQED’s Writers Contest page at writeonkids.org.
Winners of the 2019 Writers Contest will be announced at the Winners Red Carpet celebration on May 31 at WQED’s Fred Rogers Studio and awarded prizes, including the opportunity to record their winning story. Their recordings will be broadcast on iQKidsRadio.org and featured on Saturday Light Brigade Radio in the summer. K-3 winners’ stories will be made into an original puppet play, and grades 4 and 5 and STEM winners’ stories will be made into a music video that will be played at the Celebration by Pittsburgh Puppet Works.
