The Millvale Community Library is devoting April 20 — an annual holiday in cannabis culture — to educating the public about marijuana.

The event, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., will consist of several local businesses that provide medical marijuana and cannabidiol — commonly known as CBD — products presenting about the industry’s different aspects, according to organizer Abigail Beddall, library clerk and teaching artist. Vendors also will interact with visitors at booths.

“We have patrons with chronic pain who struggled with registration, patrons who are interested in CBD treatments for autism or muscle spasms, other patrons who see marijuana as a party drug,” she said. “By inviting professionals into our space, we can educate ourselves to better understand and explain this growing industry and share this information.”

“I love that the library is offering a cannabis education event. Libraries are sources of knowledge and education for all ages. Educating the public results in reducing stigma and allowing people to take their health into their own hands. We at Solevo Wellness pride ourselves in educating our patients, so we are very excited to speak at this event,” said Kaveise Cadogan, patient care consultant and external marketing coordinator at Solevo Wellness dispensary in Squirrel Hill.

Solevo Wellness pharmacy director Richard Greer will speak about the Solevo patient experience and program registration. Cadogan will provide information from her booth and give away branded merchandise for the dispensary with locations in Greensburg, Cranberry and the aforementioned Squirrel Hill.

Cadogan aims to dispel misinformation and educate the public about several points, including that the medical marijuana program is safe and regulated. Products are tested twice for contaminants and pesticides prior to reaching store shelves, she said.

Solevo has a pediatric department; many older adults are patients as well. Patients may sign another person up as a caregiver to purchase medication on his or her behalf should the patient be unable to purchase on his or her own.

In addition to a focus on growing and medical marijuana, planetHEMP’s spokespeople will talk about the industrial hemp used in the clothing brand’s fibers.

“RadRitual will have a live demo of their CBD-infused beauty and health products, which I’m super excited about,” Beddall said.

Chloe Nordlander-Notkin started the company in July 2018. She launched the RadRitual Beauty line with three beauty oils targeting specific skin types and concerns. Vogue Magazine has featured Cosmic Mermaid Soothing Beauty Oil, for dry and sensitive skin, which has natural botanicals known to soothe and hydrate, plus 150 mg of CBD. Other oils are Zitz Blitz Anti-Blemish Beauty Oil and Disco Honey Anti-Aging Beauty Oil.

Beddall said that, regardless of whether cannabis is legal, community members are using it recreationally.

“It’s not for everyone, obviously, but everyone should have a safe place to learn about it.”

The event is free. Smoking is not permitted on library premises.
