As part of Remake Learning Days 2022, Hampton Township School District hosted an Innovative Learning Spaces Tour and Discussion on May 24.

Educational leaders and community members who attended began the day with a tour of Central Elementary School’s redesigned Outdoor Learning Lab and Sensory Garden, which was built with next-generation science standards and maker-learning activities in mind.

Two 60-by-90-foot outdoor courtyard spaces were transformed and redesigned to enhance the curriculum and learning at Central, and to encourage outside learning and activities. The district’s goal was to transform the existing courtyards into spaces that provide hands-on, project-based outdoor learning environments that capture cutting-edge science and engineering standards.

Following the elementary tour, those in attendance proceeded to Hampton Middle School for poster presentations and networking with computer science and AP research students. After lunch, guests began a hands-on exploration of its new HMS Learning Pavilion, while exploring the Robotics, Wellness and Maker Studios.

The Learning Pavilion was built in collaboration with the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University Entertainment Technology Center, and includes augmented reality features that combine with physical structures and learning tools to offer an engaging learning environment.

“We are so grateful for the educational leaders who attended the tour of Hampton’s innovative learning spaces,” Superintendent Michael Loughead said. “Seeing our students, teachers and administrators sharing their excitement for teaching and learning with others is incredibly fulfilling.”

Remake Learning Days Across America took place in 17 regions across the country, with events designed to inspire active learning. The festival of nearly 1,300 events celebrating learning innovation taps into the dynamic programming of a variety of partner organizations, from local schools, museums, libraries, community hubs, tech startups and more.
