A health inspection this week at Waterworks Cinemas in Pittsburgh cited a rodent and fruit fly infestation.

The Allegheny County Health Department on Thursday issued a consumer alert about the movie theater’s conditions after a Dec. 26 inspection found six violations.

An inspector found evidence of an active rodent infestation, rodent droppings in the kitchen and nesting materials that included partially-chewed boards and evidence of rodents on tabletops and counters, the report said.

The report mentioned dead mice behind a movie screen, rodent droppings and fruit flies “too numerous to count” under drink towers, according to the Health Department.

The theater was cooking hot dogs at 44 degrees, three degrees cooler than required, which result in the hot dogs being discarded, the report stated.

The inspector found violations of cleaning and sanitation requirements, handwashing, pest management procedures and contamination prevention measures for food and equipment. Floors, walls and the general premises were not clean to Health Department standards, the inspection found.

On Sept. 27, 2022, the Health Department found eight violations during an inspection, including the general cleanliness of the facility and hand-washing facilities. In a September 2021 inspection, five violations were discovered.
