Pittsburgh officials announced Tuesday that the Highland Park Pool will remained closed for the rest of the summer because of damage caused by heavy rains and a mudslide.

Storms last week caused mud to run into both the kiddie pool and the main pool. Officials said the repairs required to reopen the facility were extensive and labor intensive and could not be completed before the end of the season, which typically finishes in early September.

“After assessing the amount of mud in both the kiddie pool and main pool, it became clear that the mud could not be handled without having to drain the pool first. Upon further inspection, two of the three large water filter tanks will need a complete replacement before the pool can be refilled,” read a statement from Pittsburgh officials.

To accommodate the extra hour of lap swim that Highland Park offered, the Bloomfield Pool will be extending lap swim to begin at 11:00 a.m. effective Wednesday, Aug. 10 for the remainder of the season.

The city suggests Highland Park pool patrons visit nearby pools like Bloomfield Pool, Magee Pool, Ammon Pool, and Schenley Pool.

More information about Pittsburgh public pool schedules and up-to-date information can be found at CitiParks’ pools website.
