A woman was hospitalized in critical condition after a house fire Monday in Pittsburgh’s Hill District, city police said.

The woman was found in a third-floor bedroom of the home in the 1700 block of Cliff Street, and was helped to safety by another resident in the house, police said. The fire, which was reported at about 2:35 a.m., originated in that bedroom, police said.

Paramedics took the woman to a hospital in critical condition. Another woman was taken by private vehicle to a local hospital for shortness of breath.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, police said.
