Hot, in-person lunches will again be served at CitiParks Healthy Active Living Senior Centers in Pittsburgh starting Monday, after not being offered for two years because of the covid-19 pandemic.

“Supporting our seniors is integral to building a welcoming, thriving and safe Pittsburgh,” Mayor Ed Gainey said.

CitiParks and other partners have distributing nearly 250,000 meals to seniors since March 2020. Louann Horan, assistant director of senior programs at CitiParks, thanked the staff members and food partners who kept the program running during the pandemic.

“Because of your compassion and generosity, we have been able to positively impact our senior community during a time in which so many needed our support,” she said.

The meal program is available for city residents ages 60 and over and their spouses, including those under 60. The program runs Monday through Friday.

Meals are free, though the city suggests a donation of 50 cents.

Seniors can register for the program by becoming a member at one of the CitiParks Healthy Active Living Senior Centers, then registering for lunch by noon on the day they would like to participate. Senior centers are located in Beechview, Brighton Heights, Glen Hazel, Greenfield, Hazelwood, Homewood, Lawrenceville, Morningside, Mt. Washington, Northview Heights, Sheraden, South Side and West End. The Northview Heights site is currently closed.

Additional information about the the senior centers and the lunch program is available on the city’s website.
