Former Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto

Former Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto says he wants to stay connected with his former constituents … sort of.

On his first full day out of office after eight years of running the city, Peduto posted a tongue-in-cheek “Top Ten ways we can stay connected” on his website Tuesday.

Number 8 on the list is raising some eyebrows.

“Cappy’s. Don’t. Even. Think. About. It. My personal Fortress of Solitude.”

For those who aren’t aware, Cappy’s Cafe is a Shadyside bar known for its breakfasts and beers — and as a place Peduto has frequented since his days on City Council.

The implication here is that while it might be OK to sidle up to Peduto and talk hockey with him at his favorite haunt, save your policy suggestions for the oft-emptied suggestion box.

Other ideas offered by the former mayor include “4. Email: bill@peduto.com. I check about once a month – lie, staff did. Now I will. 5. Email: William.peduto@aol.com. Same reason I got suede Pumas & Pro Keds – once a month. Old man blues.

“6. Facebook: @BillPeduto. I don’t do Facebook, but I may in new career. Or I may not. Be kind.”

In keeping with the self-deprecating tone of the list, one of Peduto’s suggestions makes light of the nights when protesters marched to his house.

“9. Climb in through my townhome windows. Seems quite a bit 2019, doesn’t it?”

And … (drum roll please), the top suggestion for staying connected with Bill Peduto beyond his term as mayor …

“1. Twitter: @billpeduto. I monitor daily – why, I don’t know … but, I do.”
