Homecoming court selected

Congratulations to the 2023 Chartiers Valley High School Homecoming Court, as selected by the senior class:

Maddie Cioccio, Eva Kulbago, Sarah Lacamera, Anisha Pai, Rachel White, Ian Bautista, Ben Bogats, Luke Hinds, Randieh Kassouf and Jaxon Specht.

Homecoming king and queen will be announced at halftime of the Colts football game vs. New Castle on Oct. 6.

The high school’s Homecoming Carnival is scheduled from 3:30 to 7 p.m. Oct. 4.

Grant awarded for flood control

Bridgeville is the recipient of a $5.33 million federal grant for the borough’s flood control infrastructure project.

The money will fund the first phase of this project, which involves constructing a levee to eliminate flooding of properties along McLaughlin Run. The four-phase project is also designed to solve area flooding and protect property from future losses, enabling growth, business expansion and possible development in this area.

Once the borough completes the project, mitigation efforts will benefit 172 structures, according to borough manager Joe Kauer.

Shred paper in Collier

A free paper-shredding event is scheduled for 9 to 11 a.m. Sept. 30 at the Collier Township Community Center, 5 Lobaugh St.

Heidelberg VFD hosts festival

Heidelberg Volunteer Fire Department’s Fall Fest is scheduled from 1 to 9:30 p.m. Oct. 7 at 456 First St.

Live music will be performed by the Western Pennsylvania SNPJ Button Box Club from 1 to 2:30, Mansfield 5 from 3 to 5:30, and the Timothy Earl Band from 6:30 to 9:30.

Other features include carnival games, ax throwing, vendors, food and beverages.

Scott plans Octoberfest

Scott Township’s annual Octoberfest celebration is from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 7 at Scott Park.

Activities will include hayrides, carnival games, 50/50 drawing, auction, inflatables for the children, kids’ crafts, German dancers, face painting, more than 60 vendors and live entertainment.

Halloween activities in Bridgeville

Bridgeville’s Halloween parade is scheduled for Oct. 28, with the lineup starting at 10 a.m. on Gregg Avenue at Bridgeville Manor for judging.

The parade begins at 11 a.m. and proceeds to the Bridgeville Volunteer Fire Department, 370 Commercial St.

A “Trunk or Treat” event will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 30 in the Chartiers Room parking lot at the fire department, and trick-or-treat throughout Bridgeville is scheduled for the same time the following evening.

Heidelberg Seniors meet

The Heidelberg Seniors will hold their next event at 1 p.m. Oct. 20 in the borough community room.

A movie will be shown based on attendees’ interest. All are welcome.

Learn line dancing

Collier Township Parks & Recreation presents line dance classes with Claudette Biers for participants ages 18 and older.

Classes are scheduled from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays from Oct. 2 through Nov. 8 at 5 Lobaugh St.

Help Collier plan ahead

A comprehensive plan public open house is scheduled from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Oct. 25 at the Collier Township Community Center, 5 Lobaugh St.

The township is kicking off a yearlong process to update its comprehensive plan, offering an opportunity for residents to set their vision for future growth of the community.

There will be no formal presentation during the open house, so feel free to attend at any time. For more information, contact project consultant Brandi Rosselli at brosselli@mackinengineering.com.

College Club meets

The College Club of Carnegie will meet Oct. 7 at Scoglio’s Restaurant, 661 Andersen Drive, Foster Plaza, Building 7, Green Tree.
