Valentine’s for Seniors

The Shaler North Hills Library continued its new tradition of holding the “Valentines for Seniors” project beginning in January, asking the community to create handmade valentines to be distributed to seniors in the area.

This was the second year of the event, and the community responded with a resounding yes, with the library receiving 2,060 valentines for distribution to local seniors.

“We were overwhelmed by the response this year,” said Beth R. Lawry, manager of adult services at the library.

The valentines were delivered to 18 different sites around the North Hills.

DeHaven Court, an over age 55 community, was one of the locations that receive the valentines. Lorraine Carr was able to take part in handing out the valentines to the thankful residents.

“The smiles and hugs I received when delivering the valentines to each resident were so heartwarming to me! The artwork was so interesting along with the notes inside most of them,” Carr said.

Fill a Truck event

To help our neighbors who are struggling with food insecurity, Glenshaw Presbyterian Church, located at 300 Glenn Ave. in Glenshaw is sponsoring a drive-through “Fill a Truck ” from 8 a.m.-noon April 10 to collect nonperishable food items and paper donations for the Bread of Life Food Pantry in Etna. To make this easy and safe for everyone, just drive through the portico on the Pennsylvania Avenue side of the church and volunteers will greet you to take your donations.
