Halloween at Hartwood Acres

The Allegheny County Department of Parks will sponsor Punkin’ Chunkin’ from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 21 at the Hartwood Acres Park Amphitheater.

A free trunk-or-treat car cruise is scheduled from 2 to 4 p.m. Oct. 22 in the parking lot of the amphitheater. Cruisers are encouraged to decorate their vehicles, bring candy and dress in costume. No reservations are required for children.

The movie “Hocus Pocus” will be shown on the Hartwood mansion lawn on Oct. 27

Hampton ALICE training

Hampton Township School District and the municipal police department are providing a free ALICE training for interested residents and businesspeople.

The training is scheduled from noon to 3 p.m. Oct. 29 in the Hampton Community Center.

ALICE trainings provide preparation and a plan for individuals and organizations on how to more proactively handle the threat of an aggressive intruder or an active shooter event.

North Park history presented

“Historic Structures of North Park” is the program at the Longvue Acres Garden Club meeting scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Oct. 24 at Northmont United Presbyterian Church, 8169 Perry Highway, McCandless.

Deaglan McManus, an Allegheny County park ranger, will give the presentation. Programs are on the fourth Tuesday of the month, and are free and open to the public.

Trunk and Treat

Hampton Presbyterian Church will hold a Trunk and Treat from 2-4 p.m. Oct. 28 in the lower parking lot and adjoining field. This event is open to the community.

Trunk participants: Decorate the backs of your cars for Halloween, dress up in fun costume if you wish, load up on candy to pass out, and come to the HPC parking lot by 1:30 p.m. for our cutest goblins to “trick or treat” from car-to-car. Please RSVP by Oct. 24 via email to stephanie@hamptonpresbyrerian.net.

Kids: Dress up in costume, trick or treat, play games and get candy, while the grownups socialize. Participating kids are asked to sign by Oct. 24th online at hamptonpresbyterian.net/events.

Sealarks group meets

Sealarks Women’s Group will meet at 1 p.m. Nov. 8 at Memorial Park Church, 8800 Peebles Road, McCandless.

The program is “Pittsburgh Makes Merry: Guilded Age Holiday Traditions,” by Sue Morris.

The group provides Christian fellowship and social activity for women alone. All women alone are welcome to attend and consider joining the group. Meetings are free for members and $2 for guests.
