In brief: news from AARP, Cranberry Public Library, Providence Heights Alpha School
AARP
AARP 595 welcomes new members and guests to its meeting on the first Tuesday of the month at 12:30 p.m. at Hampton Presbyterian Church, 2842 E. Hardies Road. Join us for great fellowship, luncheons, entertainment and trips. The next meeting is Feb. 7. Guest speaker will be Bob Cahalan presenting “This is Pittsburgh.” Dues are $7/year.
Cranberry Public Library
The Cranberry Public Library will host a presentation on Feb. 7 at 6 p.m. about the life and work of photographer Charles “Teenie” Harris.
The program is free to attend and will be presented by Charlene Foggie-Barnett, an archivist from Carnegie Museum of Art.
Harris (1908–1998) was the preeminent photographer for The Pittsburgh Courier, one of the nation’s most prominent Black newspapers. His archive of more than 70,000 images taken from 1935 to 1975, which is housed at Carnegie Museum of Art, is one of the most detailed and intimate historical records of Black life in America.

Providence Heights
Providence Heights Alpha School is hosting the Alpha Scholar Express, a student showcase, at the school on Jan. 29 from noon to 2 p.m.
A sit-in or take-out spaghetti dinner sponsored by the Alpha Parent Teacher Association will follow.
The school is an independent, private, Catholic, co-educational school for pre-k through 8th grade. It is sponsored by the Sisters of Divine Providence and located at 9000 Babcock Boulevard in McCandless Township.
