The North Park Boathouse was built in 1937, as part of the project to be addressed at the Longvue Acres Garden Club meeting on Oct. 22.

Club’s program addresses North Park

Longvue Acres Garden Club welcomes Deaglan McManus, an Allegheny County Parks ranger, to present the program at the group’s Oct. 22 meeting.

McManus will speak about “A New Deal for North Park: How the Great Depression and the New Deal Created the North Park We Know Today.” A series of federal investments, collectively referred to as the New Deal, were implemented in parks across the nation to aid in the recovery from the Great Depression. Allegheny County’s North Park was undeniably transformed over almost a decade of New Deal funding.

The program begins at 7:45 p.m., following a 7 o’clock business meeting, at Northmont United Presbyterian Church, 8169 Perry Highway, McCandless. Programs are free and open to the public.
