In brief: North Boroughs 5K, bike rodeo, Vacation Bible School and more in the North Hills
North Hills Community Outreach’s North Boroughs office is playing host to a 5K on Aug. 21.
Entry fees for the 5K race, which cost $25; and the $20 fee collected from participants in the 1-mile walk will benefit the charitable organization and the Northgate Cross Country Boosters.
The event is being held at Greenstone Methodist Church, 939 California Ave., in the North Side.
Walkers will begin at 8 a.m. followed by the runners at 8: 15.
There will be door prizes and giveaways at the conclusion of the event.

Ross police hosting kid’s safety event, bike rodeo
The Ross Township Police Department is playing host to a pair of upcoming events for kids.
A free Kid’s Safety Event will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. June 25 at The Block Northway, 8013 McKnight Road.
Activities include a display of public safety vehicles, face painting, balloon artists, food trucks, prizes and other activities.
On June 26, kids can learn about safe cycling by participating in the police department’s annual Bike Rodeo.
The event is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is also at The Block Northway.
Kids will learn how to safely steer a bike by ride through an obstacle course. A mechanic will be on hand to inspect bicycles for proper function and fit. Kids should bring their own helmets. There also will be music, snacks and a display of public safety vehicles during the rain or shine event.

Vacation Bible school
Ascension Lutheran Church at 8225 Peebles Road in McCandless is hosting a vacation Bible school on July 12-15 from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
Kids entering Pre-K to sixth grade are invited to enjoy making crafts, playing games, making music and learning what the Bible says about the one true God. Register at ascensionpgh.myanswers.com/mystery-island.
McCandless hosting ‘patriotic’ bingo
It’s time to get into the red, white and blue spirit.
The McCandless Activities Advisory Committee is sponsoring a virtual “Stars and Stripes” bingo on July 1 from 7-8 p.m.
It’s free to register for the all-ages event, which will be held via Zoom. There will be prizes for winners.
Registration is required, and a maximum of 145 people can sign up. The deadline to register is June 24. Each registrant will receive two bingo cards by e-mail.
