In brief: PALS ready holiday service project

Plum Area Ladies Society (PALS) will meet at Plum Community Center 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 3.

The club’s service project will be filling Christmas stockings with goodies for troops stationed overseas. Requested items include granola bars, power bars, 5-Hour Energy, individual bags of cookies, crackers or snacks, Cheeze-its, Slim Jims, pretzels, chips, Rice Krispie Treats, mints and gum, Pop Tarts, individual bags of trail mix or nuts, fruit snacks, lollipops, single-serve powdered Gatorade, chocolate candy and Christmas candy. Also, paper products and cash donations are being collected for the Plum Food Pantry. In addition, the annual dues of $25 are due at the meeting.

For their Ladies Day Out, PALS members will be meeting at 11:30 a.m. Nov. 20 at Old Thunder Brewery in Blawnox for a tour of the facility and sampling of the craft beers. Sign up at the meeting.

PALS is a service and social organization open to ladies from Plum, Penn Hills, Monroeville, and surrounding communities. Newcomers are always welcome at the monthly meeting, held at Plum Community Center on the first Wednesday of each month September- April. For details, call Mary Lou at 724 327-8265.

Super Bingo

Life Changing Service Dogs For Veterans (LCSDFV) and Penn Hills Volunteer Fire Company (PHVFC) No. 7 have teamed up for the third annual Super Bingo.

This bingo fundraiser is scheduled for Nov. 6 at PHVFC No. 7. Doors open at 4 p.m., and bingo begins at 5. The ticket is $10. There will be refreshments for purchase, “special” bingo games, basket raffle, 50/50 raffle, a $500 jackpot game and a grand door prize.

LCSDFV works to provide medical service dogs to military veterans who suffer from (but not limited to) physical disabilities, cognitive challenges, traumatic brain injuries, post-traumatic stress disorder, mobility issues as well as other limitations.

Flu shot clinic

The Presbyterian Church of Plum Creek will hold a flu vaccine clinic at the church at 11 a.m. Oct. 31 in the Fellowship Hall.

Call the church office at 412-793-4525 and leave a message to schedule an appointment. Please bring your insurance card.

Women’s Business Network

The Women’s Business Network is an award-winning business association that supports the success and growth of women in business. WBN provides members with the tools to be successful.

Oakmont Carnegie Library offers a variety of free online programs. Director Beth Mellor hosts Tuesday Morning YouTube Storytime on Tuesdays from 10 to 11 a.m.
