Hampton pool opening scheduled

The Hampton Community Outdoor Pool Complex is set to open on May 27.

The outdoor pool will operate from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily, unless otherwise specified. On days when Hampton Township School District is in session, the pool hours will be adjusted to 4 to 8 p.m.

On June 3 and 4, the outdoor pool will be closed to the public for a swim meet.

Under a new policy for 2023, rain checks may be issued when the pool facility closes before 4 p.m. because of inclement weather. The visit must be one hour or less. Rain checks must be used during the current pool season. No cash refunds will be provided.

The operating hours of the pool are subject to change without notice due to staffing, inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances. For inquiries about the pool schedule, contact the pool gate at 412-486-8809 or 412-486-0400 x1453.

Farmer’s market starts in June

Hampton Township hosts a farmer’s market from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesdays, beginning June 7.

The event continues through mid-October and offers a variety of fresh produce, homemade goods and more.

Car show scheduled

Hampton Presbyterian Church will host a car show from 4 to 6 p.m. May 27. Enthusiasts of all makes and models are invited to attend.

Families can expect a fun-filled atmosphere with DJ Denny Dutko providing the musical entertainment alongside vintage vehicles on display. Snacks will be available for purchase.

Civil War Roundtable

The Greater Pittsburgh Civil War Roundtable will hold a lecture at 7 p.m. June 19 at the Hampton Township Community Center, 1301 McCully Road. James Gindlesperger will present “Bullets and Bandages.”

Wine & Spirits Festival at Hartwood

Tickets are on sale for the Allegheny County Wine & Spirits Festival, scheduled for July 22 at Hartwood Acres.

The event features food trucks and live music. Two sessions available, 2-5 p.m. or 5:30-8:30 p.m. The festival will take place on the lawn of Hartwood’s 1920s Tudor mansion.

Distilleries, cideries and wineries confirmed as attending include Bella Terra Vineyards, Black Dog Wine Company, KingView Mead, Wine, Hard Cider, Mazzotta Winery, Pittsburgh Winery, Refucilo Winery, Wine O’Clock Somewhere Winery, Boyd & Blair, Maggie’s Farm, Lucky Sign Spirits and Quantum Spirits.

Live entertainment will be provided by Samantha Sears.

Presale tickets are $20 and can be purchased at www.alleghenycounty.us/special-events/wine—-spirits-festival.aspx. Prices will rise to $30 at midnight June 20.

Designated drivers and people under 21 are admitted free. Valid proof of age must be provided at the event to sample.

Young Writers’ Institute

The University of Pittsburgh’s Western PA Writing Project will host its 10th annual Young Writers’ Institute from June 19-23 at Sing Sing Sing, 280 Market Lane, Suite 707, Pine Township.

The workshop is open to incoming fifth- through eighth-graders, and scholarships are available. Young adult fiction writer Caroline Carlson will be in attendance.

Vacation Bible school

Northmont United Presbyterian Church is conducting a vacation Bible school from 9 a.m. to noon June 12-16 for pre-kindergarten children through fifth grade.
