In brief: Richland Township VFD sets open house
Fire department open house
The Richland Township Volunteer Fire Department will host an open house 6-9 p.m. Oct 18.
The station is situated at 5857 Meridian Road, Gibsonia.
There will be live demonstrations, close-up looks of the fire trucks, tours of the fire house and children’s activities.
The fire departments welcomes prospective members to stop in and check out the station.
D and L’s Handcrafted Deli, Waffles Pizza and Bruster’s Real Ice Cream food trucks are also scheduled for the event.
Salem Church
Autumn traditions continue at Salem Church. All children are welcome to Trunk-or-Treat at Salem Church on from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Oct. 31.
Come in costume for treats, games and storytime. It’s also time for pumpkin rolls at Salem.
The annual fundraiser is underway and orders can be placed at Salem-umc.org, via email to CommunityLife@salem-umc.org, or by calling the church office at 724-935-1627.
Salem Church is located at 350 Manor Road, Wexford, PA 15090.
Bakerstown Harvest Party
Bakerstown Alliance Church is hosting a free Fall Harvest Party for Families from 6:30-8 p.m. Oct. 23.
Hot cider, popcorn and other snacks will be served. Families can enjoy a screening of “It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown,” under the stars at the church pavilion (weather permitting). Games and other family-focused activities will be held throughout the evening.
All children must be accompanied by an adult.
The fall harvest party is the latest community event hosted by the church.
It previously held a summer event — Santa’s Summer Breakout — in July and plans to provide another family event this December.

Pine Community trunk or treat
It’s officially spooky season.
Kids can trick or treat safely in the Pine Community Center’s parking lot and show off their costumes during its trunk-or-treat event. There will be spooky crafts and Halloween games to play.
It’s set for Oct 23. Session 1 is 1-2:30 p.m., and session 2 is 2:30-4 p.m.
All children who wish to attend must be enrolled. Adults do not have to enroll.
They can be enrolled online or call or stop in at the PCC.
The fee is $3 for Pine residents and $6 for nonresidents.
