Santa’s Summer Breakout event

Santa’s breaking out the fun at Bakerstown Alliance Church on July 31, and the entire community is invited to join him.

This free event is happening from 1 to 4 p.m. on the church grounds at 4030 Bakerstown Road, Gibsonia.

“It’s been a hard year for many, and this is our way of helping the community come together and enjoy some much-needed fun and fellowship,” said Pastor Jack Scheid. “Bakerstown Alliance Church is small, but mighty, and we could not have pulled this off without the generosity of our friends and neighbors.”

Guests can enjoy the following at Santa’s Summer Breakout:

• Free popcorn and water

• Food trucks (American and Korean BBQ, coffee cart, ice cream)

• Touch a fire truck/police car

• Bounce house and kids’ games

• Raffles and prizes/gift basket giveaway (everyone gets free raffle ticket)

• Visits/photos with Santa (1 to 2:45 p.m.)

Bring a beach towel or lawn chair to enjoy live music at the church pavilion from 3 to 4 p.m. Raffle winners will be drawn at the end of the live music session. Free parking is available in the parking lot adjacent to the church grounds.

Women’s Business Network meetings set

Women’s Business Network is an award-winning business association that supports the success and growth of women in business through networking, education and leadership opportunities. Guests are welcome to attend a meeting at no cost. To learn more, visit wbninc.com.

The Cranberry Chapter holds regular meetings the first and third Thursday of each month from 7:30 to 9 a.m., at Cranberry Community United Presbyterian, 2662 Rochester Road, Cranberry. August meetings are Aug. 5 and 19. For more information, contact Kim Reuss at 412-906-0389.

The Criders Corners Chapter holds regular meetings on the second and fourth Thursday of each month from noon to 1:15 p.m., at The Sports Grille 1294 Freedom Road, Cranberry Township. August meetings will take place Aug. 12 and 26. For more information, contact Sherri Walker at 412-760-9601.

Movies in the park

Richland is hosting a pair of free Movies in the Park events in Richland Community Park.

The movie on July 29, “A Star is Born,” which is rated R, followed by family film “Toy Story 4” on Aug. 5.

Guests can bring their own lawn chairs and blankets.

Popcorn and bottled water will be available for purchase.

The event will be canceled if it rains, and a notice will be posted on the township website and through the Savvy Citizen app.

Applicants sought for Richland water board

Richland Township is accepting applications to fill a vacancy on the Richland Municipal Authority Board.

Members of the water authority serve on a volunteer basis.

Storytelling at Bradford Woods Reserve

On July 30 at 7 p.m., folks will gather at the reserve in Bradford Woods at the corner of Lincoln and Bradford Road, where you can walk down the trail to a beautiful outdoor area around a campfire and listen to people telling short stories. Joe McGuire will be singing and playing his guitar and then the stories will begin.

Bring a blanket to sit on the grass or a chair and a flashlight for leaving as it might be getting dark. There is no parking at the reserve, so attendees will have to park and walk in.

After the storytelling, some s’mores will be made .

Swing Dance — ‘All That Jazz’

The Hampton Presbyterian Church Big Band is back on the bandstand from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. on July 30 for Swing Dance – “All That Jazz.”

Enjoy some great live music that will get your feet tapping. Admission price is $10 to be collected at the door. Children 12 and younger are admitted free. Please sign up in advance online at hamptonpresbyterian.net under “Events” on the menu, or call the church office.

Appetizers, cookies, snacks and beverages will be provided. Jared Clemens will be giving free professional dance lessons from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. The church is located at 2942 East Hardies Road in Gibsonia. Call the church office at 724-443-3201 for additional details.

5K in memory of Bradly Maslanka

The 3rd annual 5K Memorial Run/Fundraiser to benefit Treatment Advocacy Center will be Aug. 1 at Hamar Grove, South Ridge Drive (North Park).

The race starts at 9 a.m. Participants can run virtually or in person.

The entry fee is $20 for adults, $15 for children 12 and younger, and $15 for seniors 60 and older.

There will be a 50/50 raffle, a Chinese auction and postrace refreshments.

Richland 35-year class reunion

The Richland High School class of 1986 is hosting its 35-year class reunion. The 1986 graduates and guests are invited to attend the event, which will be held from 4 to 10 p.m. on Sept. 18. The reunion is at Richland Park’s large pavilion at 1157 Van Velsor Drive, Bakerstown, PA 15007.

The price for the event is $30 per person. Attendees are asked to RSVP by Aug. 18 with the names of all guests. The reunion is being organized by Lisa (Thaner) Arnold, Mary (Heim) Merhaut and Kevin Miller.

Kennywood tickets

The Pine-Richland High School Band Boosters are selling Kennywood tickets throughout the summer. Consider buying your tickets through the band boosters to support the marching band.

Ride All Day Tickets are $36 and may be purchased during regular business hours at NexTier Bank in Wexford and Gibsonia, or the Pine Community Center (checks only). Make checks payable to Pine-Richland Band Boosters.

Pine-Richland’s Kennywood community day is Aug. 20, and the marching band will perform in the Fall Fantasy parade.

Garden club volunteers

The Richland Township Garden Club is looking for a group of volunteers who are interested in starting a club to manage four areas at Richland Community Park.

These areas will include the barn planting beds, pavilion planting beds and two new areas located near the new concession stand.
