Environmental council seedling sale

North Area Environmental Council is holding its annual seedling sale, offering a variety of non-invasive plants, trees and wildflower seed mixes to add to the beauty and natural habitat of yards and the ecological health of the region.

The council also is partnering with North Park’s Latodami Nature Center to make available lawn-to-nature kits.

Deadline for ordering is April 3. Pickup will be on April 27 at the Latodami Nature Center. Visit naecwpa.org for more information about the sale and to place orders.

Garden club hosts speaker

Container gardens will be the program theme at Greybrooke Garden Club’s March 13 meeting in the Fellowship Hall of Parkwood United Presbyterian Church, 4289 Mt. Royal Blvd., Hampton.

Master Gardener Marilyn Germasky will present “Can I Fit That Container Here?” A business meeting begins at 9:30 a.m. A brief period to enjoy refreshments and fellowship precedes the program, which begins at 11. Guests always are welcome.

Dinner, speaker series at church

Ascension Lutheran Church, 8225 Peebles Road, McCandless, will host two special events next month.

A free drive-thru spaghetti dinner, open to the public, is scheduled for 4 to 7 p.m. April 15. The meal includes pasta and meatballs, tossed salad, rolls and butter, and dessert.

The church’s speaker series continues from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. April 22 with “Children and Technology.” Kent Rogers of Christian Counseling Associates will speak about the psychological aspects, and the Rev. Adam Thompson, pastor of Ascension, will speak on the theological aspects.

The event will be held in the fellowship hall, with entry at the rear of church, and is open to the public. For more information, call 412-364-4463.

AARP meets in McCandless

AARP No. 2991 meets at noon the third Thursday of each month at Northmont Presbyterian Church 8169 Perry Highway, McCandless. Everyone is welcome.

Entertainment will be by Bobby Shawn at the March 21 meeting. Attend for fellowship, entertainment, 50/50 and refreshments.

The group has four trips planned: Solar Eclipse, Blennerhasset Island, Waterfire Sharon and USO Holiday Show. Membership dues are $10 per year. For more information, call 412-953-1420.

Sealarks meeting scheduled

Sealarks Women’s Group will meet at 1 p.m. March 13 at Memorial Park Church, 8800 Peebles Road, McCandless to hear Amy Steele, Northland Public Library executive director, present “A Trip to Portugal.”

The group provides Christian fellowship and social activity for women who are alone. All women alone are welcome to attend and to consider joining the group. Contact Edie at 412-487-7194 for more information.

Senior softball registration

Registration for the Northern Allegheny County Senior Softball League is open.

The organization is a competitive, slow-pitch league for players in two divisions, ages 50-plus and 62-plus. Tryout evaluations are held in March and April. Games are played from May through August, primarily at the North Park Senior Ballfield Complex at the Lodge in North Park.
