Spring plant sale

The Greybrooke Garden Club is hosting its annual spring plant sale form 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on May 8 in McCandless.

Hanging baskets, perennials, herbs, annuals and garden supplies will be available for purchase.

The event is being held in the grassy area near the Bonefish Grill restaurant in the McCandless Crossing Shopping Center on McKnight Road.

A “Reading Corner” for kids hosted by Riverstone Books will be set up during the sale and kids will receive a free seed packet to plant.

Proceeds from this fundraiser will help support Greybrooke’s annual donations to conservancy groups and community organizations.

Garden Club volunteers

The Richland Township Garden Club is looking for a group of volunteers who are interested in starting a Richland Township Garden Club to manage four areas at Richland Community Park. These areas will include the barn planting beds, pavilion planting beds and two new areas located by the new concession stand. If interested in becoming a volunteer, contact Melissa Williams mwilliams@richland.pa.us or call 724-443-5921.

Lettuce Grow Together

The Carnegie Science Center is teaming up with North Hills Community Outreach to broadcast Facebook Live events that will explore the science behind gardening and healthy eating.

The next virtual event, Apiaries and Bees, will take place at 11 a.m. on May 9 and will be hosted on Carnegie Science Center’s Facebook page and will be available on the Science Center’s YouTube channel following the livestream.

Participants will take a virtual tour of North Hills Community Outreach’s apiary and learn about the relationship between bees and plants.

The Facebook Live events are part of Carnegie Science Center’s Lettuce Grow Together! program, sponsored by GrowingGreat and Del Monte Foods. Learn more at: carnegiesciencecenter.org.

Camp registration open

Registration is open for Camp Cranberry, which runs June 7 to Aug. 20 for children ages 5-15 from any community.

The camp focuses on developing physical, social and decision-making skills; promoting self-confidence and having fun. There will be weekly themes for younger campers, such as outer space, dinosaurs, animals, science and storybook classics. Older campers will learn about their natural surroundings, how to express themselves creatively and inventing games and activities.

Some of the camp activities will be held at the township’s water park.

Full-day camp runs from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. There also are half-day camps for younger children. Lunch and extended care also will be available.

Cranberry also is offering swimming lessons for all age groups. There are group lessons, Saturday classes, sessions for preschool kids and parent and child aquatics. Private lessons also are available. For details, visit cranberrytownship.org.
