Lower Fort Pitt Bridge, outbound tunnels reopen after jackknifed truck removed

A jackknifed tractor-trailer on the lower level of the Fort Pitt Bridge blocked access to the outbound Fort Pitt Tunnel early on Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2020.
Access to the outbound Fort Pitt Tunnel was blocked for about three hours Tuesday morning because of a jackknifed tractor-trailer on the lower level of Pittsburgh’s Fort Pitt Bridge.
The crash was reported around 4:15 a.m., an Allegheny County 911 dispatcher said. The truck was removed and the lanes were cleared shortly after 7 a.m.
No injuries were reported.
PennDOT spokesman Steve Cowan said the truck lost part of its load and had leaked some fluids.
With the entire lower bridge deck closed, the Fort Pitt Tunnel and the ramp to Route 837 were not accessible, he said. Traffic was detoured.
The upper deck was not affected, Cowan said.
