This ornament, created by Wendell August Forge, commemorates the Bicentennial of Franklin Park, which was founded in 1823. The ornament also comes with a short history of the borough. Franklin Park is offering the ornament for sale during the 2023 holiday season.

Wrap up December with holiday fun in the North Allegheny area, including adding some unique decor to the Christmas tree.

Franklin Park Borough is selling a commemorative tree ornament to celebrate its bicentennial this year. The silver ornament showcases the borough’s new logo on a stocking with the words “Franklin Park Borough” and “Est. 1823 Celebrating 200 Years.”

It’s packaged with a card summarizing the history of the borough.

The metal artisan company, Wendell August Forge, of Mercer and Grove City, created the ornament. The cost is $20 and can be purchased at Franklin Park’s Municipal Building on 2344 West Ingomar Road, said Donna Platt, administrative assistant to borough manager.

The borough office is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. All proceeds from the sale will benefit historic places in Franklin Park, “such as a log cabin from the early 1800s in Blueberry Hill Park, and a log house and barn on property we purchased on Big Sewickley Creek Road,” Platt said.

Holiday scavenger hunt

The hunt will be on this Dec. 19, from 6 to 8 p.m., during Marshall Township’s annual Holiday Lights Scavenger Hunt.

“The Holiday Lights Scavenger hunt is something we started during COVID when people were social distancing. I found fun and festive lights displays throughout the Township and included them in a list for people to drive around and see. This year, we are adding some businesses in on the fun as places that families can drive past and get cookies, candy canes, hot chocolate or see Santa as they drive around and look at lights,” said Jessica Drozd, recreation director for Marshall Township.

A scavenger hunt list will be available prior to Dec. 19 on the Marshall Township Facebook page or www.twp.marshall.pa.us.

Those wishing to display their homes on the hunt can email jdrozd@twp.marshall.pa.us and include a description of their home’s display and address. All the displays will be in Marshall Township, and the businesses will be throughout Warrendale.

McCandless decorating contest

Holiday sparkle?

Check.

Decorations?

Of course.

Lots of oohs and aahs?

Even better.

McCandless residents can vote for the township’s most festively decorated home as part of the Home Holiday Decorating Contest.

The contest is for exterior decorations only. Voting will occur on the Town of McCandless Facebook page between Dec. 15-20.

McCandless residents were asked to be part of the home holiday contest earlier this month, with McCandless staff photographing the exterior of the homes and placing the photos on Facebook. The homes with the most “likes” will win. There will be at least one, but up to four prizes, depending on the votes, according to a post on the town’s website.

Winners will be announced on Dec. 21 via the town’s social media sites and on www.townofmccandless.org .
