A man convicted of sexually abusing children at his mother’s in-home daycare on Pittsburgh’s North Side will serve at least 44 years in prison.

David Tyus, 21, was found guilty by a jury in March of rape of a child and other sexual assault charges.

Allegheny County Common Pleas Judge Jill E. Rangos sentenced Tyus on Wednesday to 44 to 88 years in prison.

Police said Tyus assaulted children attending the Friendships Play House daycare on Maple Street, as well as a 17-year-old girl who was in the house when no small children were present.

His mother, Victoria Tyus, pleaded guilty to endangering the welfare of children in July 2019 for leaving the children in her care alone with her son when he did not have required clearances.

She was sentenced to probation.
