A 19-year-old man was struck and killed by a train on Pittsburgh’s South Side Saturday morning.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner identified the man as Lucas Philip Traverse, of Chalfont.

According to city police, the incident on South Fourth Street at Color Park was reported just before 10:45 a.m.

Officers found Traverse dead at the scene.

CSX shut down one track, according to police.

A CSX spokesperson said the company is assisting in the investigation. Train traffic was cleared to fully resume shortly after 1 p.m.

Traverse was a sophomore in the Palumbo-Donahue School of Business at Duquesne University, according to a notification the university sent to students.

“This is a tragic loss for our community, and we extend our deepest sympathies and are sending prayers to Lucas’s family and friends,” the university said.

Counselors are available for students, faculty and staff, as are members of the Spiritans and campus ministry, the university said. Information about an online memorial service for Traverse will be shared once plans have been finalized.

Detectives were investigating.
