A man was hospitalized after being electrically shocked while working on a home in Pittsburgh’s Greenfield neighborhood Monday.

Public Safety spokesperson Eliza Durham said police, fire and EMS were dispatched at about 4 p.m. to the 100 block of Greenfield Avenue for a report of a person shocked by an electrical current.

Two men were reportedly working on the gutters of a home when the gutters came into contact with the home’s main power line. The contact also caused a fire inside the home.

Durham said a young girl was inside the home at the time and was safely escorted out.

Duquesne Light responded by shutting off power to the home so crews could resume rescue operations. Firefighters and rescue paramedics were able to bring the man down from the roof safely.

The fire was put out at approximately 4:45 p.m.

Pittsburgh EMS transported the man in critical but stable condition with burns to the left side of his body.

The Fire Investigation unit was on scene to determine the cause of the incident.
