Emergency responders rescued a man who jumped into the river at Point State Park on Wednesday afternoon, but left a harp he brought to the park, Pittsburgh police said.

The man, who was not identified, was reported in stable condition at UPMC Mercy hospital in Pittsburgh, city police said.

Police said the man brought a full-sized harp valued at about $30,000 to Point State Park, before he disrobed in the freezing temperatures and jumped into the frigid water.

Police did not say exactly where he entered the water, but that they received a report of a man in the river around 3:30 p.m.

Rangers from the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and Pittsburgh police were able to bring him to the shore before the arrival of other units, including Pittsburgh River Rescue, police said. Medics from River Rescue, Medic 14, Rescue 2 and Unit 501 provided medical care at the scene.

Police said are conducting an investigation into whether he owned the harp.
