An Ohio man died Thursday after initially being rescued from the Ohio River in Pittsburgh.

The victim, Daniel Jacobsen, 35, of Boardman, was pronounced dead at 4:20 p.m. at Allegheny General Hospital, according to the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office.

He was spotted in the river shortly after 1 p.m. Thursday, near the West End Bridge, a Pittsburgh Public Safety spokesman said.

After pulling him from the water, Pittsburgh River Rescue crews began to administer CPR and took him to the unit’s boathouse near PNC Park, the spokesman said.

Medics took Jacobsen to the hospital in critical condition.

The manner and cause of his death weren’t immediately available.

Pittsburgh police are investigating.

The River Rescue unit includes medics who are certified rescue divers and Pittsburgh Police boat operators.
