A Pittsburgh Regional Transit employee was rescued from a trench at the South Hills junction garage in Beltzhoover Saturday morning, according to Pittsburgh Public Safety and PRT.

According to public safety, the employee fell into a 12-foot deep concrete trench at the garage. A PRT spokesman called the trench an oil pit.

The man was pinned at the bottom of the narrow trench, which was partially filled with oil.

Rescue crews responded just after 9 a.m.

Crews with Pittsburgh Emergency Medical Services used a rope and tripod system to get the man out.

Paramedics decontaminated the man, who was covered in oil, public safety said.

The man had arm and spinal injuries, public safety said. According to PRT, he was taken to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, and public safety said he was in stable condition.
