Face masks are once again required at Woodland Hills High School.

Acting Superintendent Daniel Castagna announced this week that a mask mandate went into effect Thursday at the high school. The requirement is set to remain in place through the end of next week.

The measure is meant to help the district “meet our goal of keeping students in the classroom and avoiding disruptions to prom and graduation,” Castagna said in an announcement to students and families.

Students actively participating in athletic activities will not have to wear masks, though student athletes will be required to wear them on the bench. Coaches and training staff will wear masks.

Students will be required to wear masks while traveling to and from away competitions on the bus.

The mask requirement also applies to spectators attending on-campus events at indoor venues.

“As always, we will closely monitor this and make additional adjustments as necessary,” Castagna said.

There are five active covid-19 cases among students, including four at the high school, according to the district’s online covid-19 tracker, which was last updated Thursday. Three staff members at the high school have also contracted the virus.
