Pittsburgh Mayor Ed Gainey on Friday announced that he is appointing Krysia Kubiak as city solicitor.

As solicitor, Kubiak will lead Pittsburgh’s law department, which includes a team of attorneys who specialize in corporate counsel, civil litigation, labor, real estate and tax, contracts and worker’s compensation.

Kubiak previously served as director of state regulatory strategy and government affairs for Duquesne Light Company. Before that, she served at a litigator, starting her career as a deputy district attorney in Colorado.

“Krysia Kubiak brings an impressive breadth and depth of legal experience to the city of Pittsburgh,” Gainey said. “Krysia is not only a talented attorney, but an active, dedicated member of our community. I am confident that her insight and valuable experience will make an important difference in the management and leadership of our city’s law department.”

She sits on the board of the Pittsburgh Public Theater and the Pittsburgh Chamber of Commerce.

Kubiak graduated from Swarthmore College in suburban Philadelphia and earned a law degree from William & Mary Law School in Williamsburg, Va.

“I am honored by the opportunity to serve the great city of Pittsburgh as city solicitor and look forward to working with Mayor Gainey, the City Council and the dedicated professionals in the Law Department,” Kubiak said.

She is planning to begin working as city solicitor on January 24.

City Council will need to confirm her appointment.
