Pittsburgh Mayor Ed Gainey said Tuesday he is appointing Ricardo Williams to be the city’s economic opportunity manager.

“One of my priorities as mayor is ensuring that every one of our residents has access to economic opportunity,” Gainey said in a statement. “Williams and his team will be laser-focused on promoting equity throughout their work and ensuring tangible results for the people of Pittsburgh.”

A Pittsburgh Public Schools graduate, Williams, 51, of the city’s Brighton Heights neighborhood, has more than 10 years of experience in civic engagement and economic empowerment, Gainey’s office said. Most recently, Williams served as executive vice president of A Second Chance Inc., helping the Pittsburgh-based nonprofit create new systems and strategies for community engagement and case management. Before that, he worked as the manager of equity and inclusion for the Office of the Mayor under former Mayor Bill Peduto’s administration.

The appointment is effective immediately.
