McKees Rocks man to serve 20 to 40 years for killing brother and brother's girlfriend in Stowe
A McKees Rocks man will spend 20 to 40 years in state prison after pleading guilty Tuesday to killing his brother and his brother’s girlfriend.
Timothy Gumm, 62, pleaded guilty to two counts of voluntary manslaughter and a firearms count before Allegheny County Common Pleas Judge Kelly Bigley.
A criminal complaint filed in the case said police discovered the bodies of Christopher Gumm and Sally Sines in a home on Liberty Street in Stowe shortly before 11:30 a.m. Feb. 18, 2021.
Police found an Aldi bag with two 16-ounce cans of Coors Light under Christopher Gumm’s body.
According to a witness, Timothy Gumm had been at the witness’s home a few days earlier when the two bought a 12-pack of Coors Light at a Speedway convenience store.
At the time, police wrote, Timothy Gumm told the witness that he was upset because his brother and brother’s girlfriend were living in their parents’ home.
The witness told police that Timothy Gumm left with an Aldi bag of Coors Light and said he was headed to his parents’ house to pick up his mail.
When Timothy Gumm was questioned by police, he first said he was not in the area. After changing his story several times, he admitted to being there and that he was upset someone had broken into their father’s room. When he confronted his brother, Christopher Gumm said that he was “‘sick of him,” and went toward him.
Timothy Gumm said he pulled out a .38-caliber revolver and pointed it at his brother, believing he might have a knife. Timothy Gumm then fired once at his brother and shot Sines twice.
He told police he threw the gun away as he walked toward Pine Hollow. Police later found it in the rear yard of a home on Broadway Avenue.
