The West Mifflin mother who was found dead in her backyard Friday after, according to police, her son murdered her has been identified.
Officials said the woman was Helene Nulty, 52.
Her cause of death is listed as ligature strangulation, according to the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Her son, Jonathan Nulty, 21, is charged with criminal homicide, abuse of a corpse and tampering with evidence.
The case began as a missing persons investigation after Nulty’s father reported her missing after having had no contact with her for five days.
Detectives went to her home on the 700 block of Eastman Street and spoke with Nulty.
Nulty was found wrapped in plastic garbage bags in the back yard, according to Allegheny County Police.
Police said Nulty was being held in the Allegheny County Jail in Pittsburgh.
