A 28-year-old North Side woman died Tuesday when her vehicle struck a tree in Pittsburgh’s Perry South neighborhood.

Shronda Watkins was identified as the driver in the crash, the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office said.

The crash, which did not involve any other vehicles, happened at about 10 p.m. Tuesday, according to the medical examiner.

Pittsburgh police and medics responded to the incident at Perrysville and Kenwood avenues.

“Once on scene, officers observed a vehicle that had struck a tree, causing serious damage,” Pittsburgh Public Safety spokesman Maurice Matthews said. “Medics were already treating the female driver at the scene.”

Watkins was pronounced dead at Allegheny General Hospital shortly before midnight.

Officials did not release further details about the cause of the crash.

The department’s Collision Investigation Unit is investigating.
