Michael Keaton’s name has been corrected on his Pittsburgh Walk of Fame plaque in the Strip District.

Michael Keaton’s Pittsburgh Walk of Fame star, unveiled last month, originally honored the value of proofreading as much as the Kennedy Township-born actor.

But he’s “Micheal” no more. As of Sunday, the creators of the Strip District attraction had installed a new bronze-cast plaque that switched the “a” and “e” in his first name to their rightful places.

The misspelling came in a blurb describing his more than 40-year career “under his stage name Micheal Keaton.”

Best known for his title roles in “Batman,” “Birdman” and “Beetlejuice,” Keaton has appeared in nearly 100 movies and TV series. He began his career at WQED, where he made his first TV appearance on “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood.”

Nancy Polinsky Johnson, the Walk of Fame’s founder and executive director, learned of the error Oct. 21, one day after revealing its first 10 stars. She was “mortified,” she told TribLive at the time, but took the publicity in stride.

The replacement plaque would take multiple weeks to arrive, she said.

Keaton didn’t notice anything was amiss during the induction ceremony, according to Johnson. In his remarks at the event in front of the Strip District Terminal, he said “there’s nothing like being recognized by your hometown.”
