The Monongahela Incline is again open for business.
The 154-year-old incline that connects Pittsburgh’s Station Square to the Mount Washington neighborhood reopened at 5:30 a.m. Saturday, according to Pittsburgh Regional Transit.
The incline had been closed since Jan. 2 due to failing electrical and mechanical systems.

According to Pittsburgh Regional Transit, the Mon Incline is the oldest continuously operating funicular (mountainside cable-operated rail car) in the nation and has transported millions of riders.
The Mon Incline has endured a series of closings over the past several years, including an $8.2 million repair project between August 2022 and March 2023.
As described on the National Register of Historic Places, the iconic incline was built in 1870 to transport workers up and down “Coal Hill,” now known as Mount Washington.
The Mon Incline made the list of the world’s coolest public transit rides in 2019.
An adult round-trip ticket is $3.50.
