There is one contested race on the Monroeville Council, with Bob Stevenson running against Len Young in Ward 3. Joseph K. Hyzy will run uncontested in Ward 1, as will Michael J. Adams in Ward 5 and Dennis R. Biondo Jr. in Ward 7, according to the Allegheny County Office of Elections unofficial candidate list.

Incumbent Nicholas J. Gresock will run unopposed in the mayoral race.

Here are the nominees in the Monroeville Ward 3 race and their responses to election questions:

Bob Stevenson

Political party: Democrat

Age: 74

Education: Some college and hundreds of municipal classes, as well as Stephen Covey training

Occupation: Veteran, retired

If elected, what are two short-term goals?

If elected my first goal is to unite the council. As you know, it is very possible that four new council people will be seated.

My second goal will be to go over the expenditures of the municipality. Not that there is anything wrong, but there are millions of dollars going out and coming in, and a new look at that, I feel, is needed.

If elected, what is one long-term goal?

My long-term goal is to streamline some of the municipality’s processes. I’m sure anyone that has dealt with any internal offices knows some of the processes take a very long time.

I think it is possible to shorten some of the processes and make it easier to get things done when working with the municipality.

How do you plan to communicate with constituents and involve them in the decision-making process?

I will set up a dedicated land line to call with whatever issue my constituents may have.

Len Young

Political party: Republican

Age: 64

Education: Gateway High School, class of 1975, Penn State-Behrend

Occupation: 23 years self-employed landscaper and arborist

If elected, what are two short-term goals?

Provide common-sense solutions to Monroeville’s real-life problems. Improve the business environment to encourage more commerce and increase the tax base.

If elected, what is one long-term goal?

Work closely with other municipal departments to increase our level of resident service through efficiency and innovation.

How do you plan to communicate with constituents and involve them in the decision-making process?

Citizens are free to determine their own level of involvement.

Like most others, I have two phones (land and cell) and email, but no social media. I will listen to my constituents and consider their input when making decisions that affect them.
