4 Gateway School Board members reelected
Four Gateway School Board incumbents won reelection, and they will be joined by two new members, according to unofficial Allegheny County results posted Nov. 7.
John M. Bova, board president, was unopposed for a two-year term. Running cross-filed as a Democrat and Republican, he received 6,905 votes. Write-in votes totaled 105.
“I’d like to thank the voters who supported and encourage me and I look forward to serving this community for two more years,” Bova said.
Of the five candidates winning four-year seats, three were cross-filed: incumbents John Ritter (4,825 votes) and Valerie Warning (4,476), along with Cheryl E. Boise (4,384).
“To the voters of Pitcairn and Monroeville, thank you for your support in electing me to the Gateway School Board,” Boise said. “The students’ safety and providing them with a range of opportunities will always be my primary focus. Their success is why I ran.”
Warning expressed similar gratitude:
“I would like to thank all the constituents of Monroeville and Pitcairn that supported me in the election. I look forward to another four years of being the voice for our students, staff and taxpayers.”
Two candidates on the ballot solely as Democrats earned four-year terms. Incumbent Susan DeLaney received the second-most votes, 4,742.
“I do not take this opportunity lightly because, as an elected school board director, it is my responsibility to serve our community with transparency which reflects the beliefs, priorities and values of the Monroeville and Pitcairn communities,” DeLaney said.
“Along with my fellow board members as a team, I will continue to provide leadership and advocacy for all our Gateway students in a safe learning environment, enabling each student to reach his/her highest potential,” she continued. “It is also my duty to make the best decisions for our students, to hold our district accountable and be fiscally responsible to our taxpayers, parents, stakeholders and the educational staff of the Gateway School District.”
Democrat Donna Burns garnered 4,525 votes in securing her first term on the board.
“I want to thank the voters in Gateway for their support in electing me to the school board,” she said. “I am excited to work with the other school directors and the community so that our students are successful in their educational endeavors.”
Running unsuccessfully as Republicans, Kelly Matrazzo received 3,379 votes and George Lapcevich, 3,112.
