Officials in Monroeville are trying to determine the scope of work needed to reopen a municipal road that was closed almost 50 days ago.
In an announcement posted to the borough website Monday, officials said they are looking into whether the issues that have caused Cavitt Road to be closed indefinitely can be fixed in-house or if the work needs to be bid out.
The municipality is working with its geotechnical engineers, Robinson-based Garvin Boward & Bieko, to determine how Cavitt Road will be repaired after water caused the road to shift.
Manager Tim Little said the road was observed by a Monroeville engineer, who said the road was “slipping more than it should.”
When Cavitt Road closed March 13, the municipality expected it to reopen within a few days.
The approximately two-mile road was still closed on March 22 when the municipality said it would be closed indefinitely.
Monroeville staff hopes to have “more information at the council agenda setting meeting,” which starts at 7 p.m. May 9.
