Folks who may see a lot of EMS, police and related activity at Forbes Hospital in Monroeville on Saturday morning should not be alarmed.

Emergency responders and staff of the Allegheny Health Network’s hospital at 2570 Haymaker Road will be involved in a disaster drill from 8 a.m.-10 a.m.

Actors and makeup artists will help simulate a severe weather incident on campus with multiple agencies joining together to learn and improve on their response to mass casualties.

Authorities said local responders will have to rescue 16 volunteers and transport them to Forbes’ emergency trauma department as part of the drill.

“AHN Forbes Hospital conducts at least two drills a year with local agencies along with many more internal drills to keep the team prepared for any response necessary,” said Krista Bragg, Forbes Hospital chief operating officer and interim chief nursing officer. “Our leaders are excellent at responding to a wide variety of unexpected situations.

“Forbes Hospital has tremendous respect for our local first responders and we believe collaborative emergency drills enhance our partnerships and sharpen our skills. Our team approach is best practice to providing the highest level of trauma and emergency response for our community.”
