Final Steel City Con of the year set for early December weekend
Pop culture and comic enthusiasts have a chance to do some holiday shopping and meet celebrities at the Monroeville Convention Center.
The final Steel City Con of the year is set for Dec. 6-8 at 209 Mall Blvd. It’s the exclusive comic con of Monroeville and one of the largest in the country.
There will be wall-to-wall vendors with everything from vintage video games and systems, toys, games, books, posters and memorabilia.
Professional wrestling legend, D-Von Dudley, is expected to attend all three days.
He and “kayfabe” half-brother Bubba Ray Dudley made up the Dudley Boyz, also known as Team 3D. Their iconic move, the Dudley Death Drop, still ranks among the WWE’s greatest finishers of all time.
D-Von’s visit coincides with a special appearance at Renegade Wrestling Alliance’s Season’s Beatings set for Dec. 7 at West Newton Gym, 113 South Fifth St. in West Newton.
Call 724-283-5830 or go to rwalive.com for more information about that show.
Fellow WWE Hall-of-Famers Trish Stratus and “Lita” Amy Dumas will be among the celebrity guests in Monroeville.
A “Saved by the Bell” reunion previously planned for the con was recently cut in half. Mario Lopez and Elizabeth Berkley cancelled their appearances due to the show’s reboot filming. Mark Paul Gosselaar and Dustin Diamond are still scheduled to appear, according to the event’s website.
Cary Elwes, Wallace Shawn and Chris Sarandon from “The Princess Bride” are scheduled to be at the convention center throughout the con.
Other celebrities include Neve Campbell (“The Craft,” “Scream”), Denise Richards (“Wild Things,” “Starship Troopers”), Carmen Electra (“Baywatch,” MTV’s “Singled Out”), Sean Astin (“The Goonies,” “Rudy,” “The Lord of the Rings”), Ethan Peck (“The Sorcerer’s Apprentice,” “Mine Games”), Jamie Kennedy (“Son of the Mask,” “The Jamie Kennedy Experiment”), Tony Danza (“Whose the Boss?”) and Patrick Renna (“The Sandl0t”).
Adult and youth costume contests are scheduled for Dec. 8.
The con is in its 30th year, and just the second for owners Denise DeSimone of Uniontown and Bob Stein of Gibsonia.
