The Donate Life flag is raised at Forbes Hosptial in Monroeville.

Forbes Hospital in Monroeville has followed annual tradition by raising a flag in honor of National Donate Life Month.

More than 110,000 people are awaiting organ transplants in the United States, including more than 2,500 people in western Pennsylvania. National Donate Life Month, celebrated every April, encourages more Americans to register as organ, eye and tissue donor,s and recognizes those who have saved lives through donation.

Participants in a flag-raising ceremony included Greg Sabak, a heart transplant recipient; Jill Direnzo, Forbes director of nursing; Dr. Mark Rubino, hospital president; and Kristen Stone, director of laboratory services.

The hospital is part of Allegheny Health Network, an integrated healthcare delivery system serving the western Pennsylvania region.
