The Gateway school board voted to approve a new environment club at the high school in Monroeville.

No school funding is required for the club, which will focus on gardening, recycling and community cleanup.

The board also voted 8-0, with director Jack Bova being absent, to approve a video project from Captivate Media, intended to educate on the new emergency standard response protocol. The cost of $3,750 is being paid for with federal funds.

The board also agreed to deconstruct and rebuild Evergreen Elementary’s playground at a total cost of $44,250. Evergreen FTO is donating $40,000 for the project, while the remaining $4,250 to come from the district’s Evergreen repair account.

The education and equity committee will meet Oct. 6; the building and grounds committee will meet Oct. 9. Both meetings will be at 6 p.m. at the administration building, 9000 Gateway Campus Blvd., Monroeville.
