Household chemical collection coming up
The Pennsylvania Resources Council will host a household chemical collection event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Aug. 14 at the Boyce Park Ski Lodge parking lot. The event will provide residents with an opportunity to safely and cost effectively dispose of common chemicals such as cleaners, paints, stains and varnishes, batteries, motor oil and pesticides.
A $20 fee covers the cost of disposing up to 10 gallons/50 pounds of aerosol cans, automotive fluids, chemistry sets, gasoline and kerosene, household cleaners, mercury thermometers, paint products, pesticides/garden chemicals, photo chemicals and pool chemicals.
Loads exceeding 10 gallons/50 pounds will be subject to additional fees at discretion of on-site staff. Participants will pay $12 per fire extinguisher and $15 per pound of liquid mercury.

Fundraiser to benefit suicide prevention
Healing Hearts & Minds, a fundraising event, is scheduled from 1 to 8 p.m. Aug. 14 at Tall Trees Amphitheater in Monroeville to benefit the American Foundation for Suicide prevention and bring mental health support and awareness to the community.
The event will feature more than 20 vendors, including direct sales, crafters and bakers, along with mental health support services, nonprofit organizations and healers to provide information and avaliable resources local to the community.
There will be a live DJ, a basket auction and giveaways, including a swag bag for the first 50 guests. The swag bags will include a free ticket to the Pittsburgh Vegan Expo Show on Nov. 6 at the Monroeville Convention Center. Thanks to a number of businesses and individuals, face painting, balloon animals, a tinkergarten experience, an expressive art activity and other fun and educational entertainment will be offered.
Women’s Business Network meetings
Women’s Business Network is an award-winning business association that supports the success and growth of women in business. WBN provides members with the tools to be successful, including networking, mastermind groups, and ongoing professional education, while expanding their circle of influence in the marketplace.

• Hillcrest United Presbyterian Church will be holding an outdoor yard/craft sale Aug. 14. The sale will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the front lawn of the church and is open to the public.
Tables are available for a donation of $10 for you to sell your own items. To reserve a table, call the church office at 412-824-5600 and leave a message. • The 20th anniversary of 9/11 will be commemorated by the Hillcrest United Presbyterian Church during a special service Sept. 12 remembering the sacrifices of first responders during this traumatic event in our nation’s history. The 11 a.m. community service will feature special music as a tribute to those who gave their lives during 9/11 to save the nation from terrorism. Garden City UMC Food Pantry
Garden City UMC food pantry, 500 Laurel Drive, holds distributions from 9 to 10:30 a.m. and from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month. Call 412-373-0391 for an appointment. Masks are required. Upcoming distribution dates are Aug. 12, Sept. 9, Oct. 14, Nov. 11 and Dec. 9.

English as a Second Language group
An English as a Second Language (ESL) Conversation Group is held at 7 p.m. the first Wednesday of each month at the Monroeville Public Library.
Participants can meet other English language learners for informal and guided conversation practice, including reviewing pronunciation, learning new vocabulary and possibly discussing short ESL readings suited to the interests and abilities of attendees.
