Attention taxpayers and families of the Gateway School District: Given the 3.6% tax increase, please attend the Aug. 10 and Aug. 17 school board meetings. Here’s why:
Five of your school board members decided to vote against our school administrators’ recommendations and hire a full-time equity director at a starting salary of $93,000 per year plus benefits prior to even knowing what the new school year budget would be.
This vote for this administrative position was cast before the district even had a written job description. It was forced through despite requests to delay it until after the new budget was presented by administration.
Shouldn’t the five board members have waited for administration to give them a budget? These five board members’ behaviors are very suspicious and this backdoor vote approach reeks of personal agendas.
What our district needs is to get our kids back on track from the pandemic education loss of 2020.
We need to focus on each child individually. Children are coming off an unprecedented school year. We don’t even know what emotional, psychological and behavioral issues will occur once all the kids are back together full time.
Our tax dollars should be spent toward more educators working and sitting shoulder to shoulder with our children, not on another high-paying bureaucratic position brought on by sitting board members’ personal agendas.
