Man accused of entering Gateway elementary school faces new charges in separate incident
A Monroeville man arrested in March for lying his way into Ramsey Elementary School in Monroeville and recording a child on his cellphone is facing new charges, according to Monroeville police.
Brian Mintmier, 26, is charged with two counts each of terroristic threats and simple assault.
Police filed the charges in connection with an incident May 31 along the 1200 block of Old Concord Drive.
Officers responded to the scene around 9:20 a.m. for a report of a “psychological issue — nonviolent,” court documents read.
Mintmier was on house arrest and at a home with relatives who told police he had charged at them with a knife.
The criminal complaint also states officers received information that he was “being delusional, shouting off incoherently and making up stories.”
He was transported to Forbes Hospital for an evaluation. No injuries were reported in the incident.
Mintmier had waived his preliminary hearing on charges of possession of instruments of a crime, possession of a weapon on school property, tampering with physical evidence, invasion of privacy and criminal attempt.
Those charges stem from an incident at the Gateway elementary school on March 15.
According to that criminal complaint, police responded to the school on Ramsey Road about 3:30 p.m. where staff members had detained a man — later identified as Mintmier — after he was found in the girls’ bathroom.
Online court court documents indicate Mintmier’s formal arraignment for those related charges is set for June 17.
His preliminary hearing for the new charges was schedueld for June 13 before Monroeville District Justice Jeffrey L. Herbst.
Mintmier remains in Allegheny County Jail after being unable to post bail, according to online court documents.
