Gateway Ice Hockey free skate
The Gateway Ice Hockey Club will hold a free skate from 6:30-7:20 p.m. May 5 at Palmer Imaging Arena in Salem.
Students in kindergarten through 12th grade who are interested in playing ice hockey and meeting current players and coaches are invited.
Rental skates are available and no playing experience is necessary.
The arena is at 100 Center Ice Drive.

‘Good as New’ book sale
Monroeville United Methodist Church will host a “Good as New” Lydia Circle used book sale from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. April 12 and 13 at the church, 219 Center Road.
A variety of fiction, nonfiction and children’s books will be available along with gently used puzzles and board games. Items may be purchased individually or $10 for a full brown paper bag, which will be provided.
Proceeds from the sale will be used to support local, national and international mission projects. For more information call the church at 412-372-7474.

Bingo luau
Divine Mercy Academy will hold a Super Bingo Luau on April 27 at the Lourdes Center. Doors open at 5:45 p.m. with early birds games starting at 6:45 p.m. Regular games will begin directly after the early birds. Players must be 21 and over, and this is a BYOB event.
Concessions, water and soda will be available for purchase; players are welcome to bring their own refreshments and snacks. In addition to the regular bingo, there will be a cupcake bingo, prize raffle, 50/50 drawing and a basket raffle.
Tickets are $25 in advance or $30 at the door. Purchasing tickets in advance is highly recommended since seating is limited. The school’s last bingo in October sold out prior to the day of the event.
Players are welcome to reserve a table when purchasing tickets. Accommodations can be made for groups of six, 12 or 18 players and must be reserved when buying tickets.

Makers market at Divine Mercy
Divine Mercy Academy’s Parent-Teacher Guild will hold a Makers Market from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on April 6 at the school. According to PTG Fundraising Chair Tina Cuda, this is the school’s first “handmade-only” craft show. There will be no direct sales and all 80+ vendors will have only handmade items and homemade baked goods.
Among the items for sale by makers and bakers include crocheted gifts, fresh-baked bread and cookies and “Pittsburgh” bags.
The craft show will take place on both floors, in the gymnasium and cafeteria, which are both accessible. All proceeds from the show will go to the PTG to fund school events and activities.

Superhero 5K Race
Sunrise School will hold its annual Superhero 5K Race at 9 a.m. on April 28 at Monroeville Community Park West. Registration and check-in will begin at 8:15 a.m.
According to Assistant Principal Tim Fabrizi, this is the school’s s eighth year for the event, which also includes a 1 mile walk and kids fun run for those that don’t care to race but want to participate.
Part of the Allegheny Intermediate Unit 3, Sunrise is comprised of special education students ages 5 to 21 from the eastern part of Allegheny County.
All proceeds from the 5K will go toward educational and social activities for the students. Fundraising from previous years has helped to source playground equipment, a scoreboard in the gym, school events and assemblies and community field trips.
Registration is open; anyone who registers by April 12 will receive a free T-shirt. This year, the students also helped to create the shirt design.

Scholar talks at Monroeville church
Catholic scholar Peter Kreeft will host two June presentations at St. Bernadette Church in Monroeville, presented by Christ the Divine Shepherd Parish.
• June 29: “Eucharistic Revival,” will take place following the 4 p.m. Saturday vigil service.
• June 30: “How Do We Talk About Our Faith?” will take place after the 11 a.m. Mass. A reception will follow at Biedenbach Hall.
The church is at 245 Azalea Drive in Monroeville. Registration is not required to attend.
Car club blessing
Members of the East Coast Motor Mafia car club will host a car blessing ceremony April 20.
It will be from noon - 2 p.m. at Holy Grail Auto Storage & Clubhouse, 905 Main St. in East Pittsburgh.
The club’s house chaplain will bless cars for the 2024 season.

Spring craft fair
The Plum Creek Masonic Hall will host an April 20 spring craft fair from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.
It will be at Lodge 799, 9521 Saltsburg Road in Plum. In addition to craft tables, hot dogs, beverages, breakfast sandwiches and snacks will be available for sale.

Sedlak Memorial Cleanup
The annual Jack Sedlak Memorial Cleanup will take place from 9-11 a.m. April 27 in Monroeville.
Participants can choose a road, park or neighborhood and spend the morning removing litter. Register by April 22 at Monroeville.pa.us, by clicking on the “2024 Jack Sedlak Cleanup Day” link on the home page and filling out a registration form.
A group picnic will take place following the cleanup at Monroeville Community Park West, 2399 Tilbrook Road. It will include food and raffle prizes.
