Holy Week prayer vigil

A Holy Week prayer vigil will take place from the conclusion of Good Friday worship through Easter morning at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 4503 Old William Penn Highway, Monroeville.

Pastor Bob Schaefer invites members of the community to spend time in the peaceful surroundings of the church’s prayer chapel. Attendants will be present during evenings to ensure guests’ comfort and security, and the church offers a variety of prayer resources, including hymnals and devotionals. Light refreshments will be provided.

‘Good As New’ books

The 27th annual “Good As New” used book sale will be April 21-23 at Monroeville United Methodist Church, 219 Center Road.

Hours are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday and 9 to 11 a.m. Sunday.

A variety of fiction, nonfiction and children’s books will be available. Gently used puzzles and board games also will be for sale. Items may be purchased individually or $10 for a brown paper bag, which is provided.

Proceeds from the sale will be used to support local, national and international mission projects. For more information, call the church at 412-372-7474.

Free Easter dinner

Christ the Divine Shepherd Parish will host a free community dinner on Easter, April 9, in the Lourdes Center at 245 Azalea Drive, Monroeville.

Food will be served from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., or until it is gone.

Consignment sale set

Families looking to save money on back-to-school shopping or make money through consignments can do both at the Monroeville Convention Center.

Just Between Friends Pittsburgh East brings its consignment sale back to 209 Mall Blvd. from 2 to 9 p.m. April 20, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 21, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 5 to 9 p.m. April 22, and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 23. Tickets range between $5 and $25, depending on type of admission.

Items available include children’s clothing from infant through teen sizes, maternity clothing, kid furnishings and room decor, arts and crafts supplies, books, games, strollers, sporting goods and more.

Gun show scheduled

Showmasters Gun Show returns to the Monroeville Convention Center, 209 Mall Blvd., from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 15 and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 16.

Admission is $11. Children younger than 12 get in for free. More information is available at showmastersgunshows.com.

Clean Up Day on deck

The 28th annual Jack Sedlak Memorial Clean Up Day is scheduled from 9 to 11 a.m. April 29 in Monroeville.

An appreciation picnic is planned afterward at Monroe­ville Community Park West.
