Job fair

United Career Fairs will host an Aug. 19 job fair focused on sales and management positions.

It will be from 6-8 p.m. Aug. 19 at the Courtyard Marriott, 3962 William Penn Highway in Monroeville.

Each company will introduce their business and the opportunities they offer. Participants will then have a chance to meet with hiring managers.

Church of Brethren events

The Monroeville Church of the Brethren, 481 Center Road, has several upcoming events:

• Yard sale, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 9 in the church parking lot. Vendor spaces are $10; tables are $5. Contact Kim at 412-977-1779 to participate.

• Camp Invention, 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Aug. 11-15. For students from kindergarten through grade 6, campers will team up with others to explore open-ended STEM challenges. The church is seeking a director and interns. To apply, email livingyourbestlifeinthepresent@gmail.com.

• Cursive writing classes, 6-7 p.m. Aug. 18-22. Cost is $13 per person for the week, and includes all writing material. Open to adults and children.

Church flea market

Christ the Divine Shepherd Church, 245 Azalea Drive, Monroeville, will hold a three-day flea market in August in Lourdes Center Hall.

Early bird sales will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Aug, 1, with $5 admission. Sales continue from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. on Aug. 2 (second session is half price, with some exclusions) and name your price sale is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 3,

Food will be available for purchase.

National Night Out

National Night Out will be observed from 6-8 p.m. Aug. 5 at Monroeville Community Park, 2399 Tilbrook Road.

Held at pavilions 1-4, the free event is meant to show support for police and first responders. Food, games and music will be featured.

Participants include Monroeville police officers, firefighters, EMS, public works and government representatives. Activities include a police K-9 demonstration, foam party, state police helicopter landing, s’mores station and music by DJ Geoff Balla.

Food pantry

The Garden City Food Pantry will host a food distribution day from 6-7 p.m. Aug. 14 at 500 Laurel Drive in Monroeville.

Distributions will take place on the second Thursday of each month. Additional distribution days will be Sept. 11, Oct. 9, Nov. 13 and Dec. 11.

Fall festival

The Monroeville Foundation’s Fall Festival will take place Sept. 13 at Monroeville Community Park West. There is no cost to attend, and the day will include food, live music, entertainment, a classic car cruise, a 5K run and 3K walk and more.

Festival organizers are also seeking event-day sponsors. More information on sponsorships is available at MonroevilleFoundation.org.

Day of Peace planned

Monroeville Rotary’s International Day of Peace celebration be held Sept. 20 at Monroeville Community Park West, 2399 Tilbrook Road.

The all-ages event begins at 11 a.m. and will be held in the Peace Garden, or a nearby pavilion if it’s raining. Music, dance performances and comments by local community leaders will be featured. The program will highlight the ethnic, racial and cultural richness of the community, with a focus on promoting peace through connection and understanding.

All proceeds will go toward Rotary’s scholarship program, youth services and local organizations that work to reduce food insecurity in the community.

Day of Giving

The Pittsburgh Foundation will host a Day of Giving event for the Garden City Food Pantry in Monroeville.

Online donations will be accepted at PittsburghGives.org from 8 a.m. to midnight Aug. 5. All donations of $25 and more will be eligible for additional incentive funds from the foundation.

Block parties

Monroeville’s Recreation & Parks Department is hosting one more block party this summer where residents can relax, enjoy food and talk with their local officials.

It will take place Aug. 12 at Monroeville Community Park West’s Pavilion 3, 2399 Tilbrook Road, with Ward 3 Councilman Bob Stevenson.

Each event will include a craft for kids, food from the Gridiots BBQ food truck and more.

The parties will be from 6 to 8 p.m.

Food distribution

A free food distribution day will take place each month at Gateway High School.

Distribution will be from 9 to 11 a.m. and 6 to 7:30 p.m. on the second Wednesday of each month at the high school, 3000 Gateway Campus Blvd. in Monroeville. Attendees can line up through the school parking lot.

Identification is not required.

The distributions provide food aid to nearly 800 families each month, according to organizer and school board member Valerie Warning.

Association of University People

The Association of University People invites potential new members to join them at an event.

The association invites singles aged 50 and older, who are four-year college graduates, to join them for activities and to meet new people. Activities include picnics, monthly dinners, a book group and meetups at local concerts and wineries.
