A Monroeville bike shop, devastated by a four-alarm fire in May that destroyed more than 300 bicycles and closed the business, will host a grand reopening at a new location Dec. 10-12.

Multiple fire companies responded May 25, 2021, to Pro Bike+Run on Route 22 after a utility-closet fire sparked a blaze that ruined bikes, shoes, apparel and more, shutting down the store.

No employees or customers were injured, and bike shop staff said plans to reopen were under way almost immediately.

General manager Jordan Cherry said all of the Monroeville store’s employees were able to continue working across Pro Bike+Run’s other locations.

“We’ve seen most of our customers making the drive across the city to other other locations to support us as well,” he said. “It was great to see.”

Owner and founder Craig Cozza agreed.

“We have an amazing team that love to share our passion for fitness,” Cozza said. “And they’ve been champing at the bit to get back up and running, supporting our community through all we do.”

The new store will be just up the highway at the former Pier 1 store, 4201 William Penn Highway. It will boast an open-design layout and the three-day grand reopening will include group rides, local race teams, giveaways and free test rides on an expanded selection of electric bikes.

“The industry is being transformed by amazing e-bike designs,” Cherry said. “We wanted to create a new in-store experience to reflect the new technology and amazing power electric bikes bring to your ride.”

Food and prize drawings from store vendors also will take place throughout the weekend.

The Pittsburgh-based company has stores in Robinson, Hampton and Monroeville.
